2020 Keynotes Announced

The Coalition for Compassionate Care of California is excited to announce the keynote speakers for our Summit 2020 | Sharpening our Vision for Compassionate Care in the Face of Serious Illness, which will be held May 5-6, 2020 in Sacramento.

Martha TwaddleMartha L. Twaddle, MD
Medical Director for Palliative Medicine & Supportive Care
Northwest Medicine – Lake Forest Hospital

Dr. Martha L. Twaddle combines nearly 30 years of experience in the care of seriously ill people and their families in a variety of areas of service. Her academic work includes developing curriculum, guidelines, and models of care for healthcare professionals to provide care for the seriously ill in all settings. In addition, at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, she works with teams that are evaluating the impact of communication skills training on healthcare culture along with creating and testing systems of care for seriously ill people and their families across settings of care. On behalf of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine (AAHPM), Dr. Twaddle serves as the Co-Chair for the National Consensus Project for Quality Palliative Care, which is revising the clinical practice guidelines for the field.

Dr. Kimberly D. Acquaviva, Betty Norman Norris Endowed Professor at the University of Virginia School of Nursing, is nationally known as an innovator and authority on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and/or questioning (LGBTQ) aging and end-of-life issues as well as a leader on interprofessional aging research and policy.
