Michael Kersten is Manager of Clinical Innovations and program manager for Serious Illness Management and the Virtual Care Team at Hill Physicians. Current projects include planning and implementing a home-based palliative care program and study with Blue Shield of California.
Mr. Kersten recognized end-of-life care as his life’s work in his mid-20s. After becoming one of the first Buddhist MDiv graduates in the country, he spent five wonderful years as a hospice chaplain in Queens, New York. Wishing to expand compassionate end-of-life care beyond and upstream from the hospice benefit, he transitioned to program management after receiving an MPH from UC Berkeley. During that time, Mr. Kersten led product design for a digital start-up for advance directive documentation and was on a consulting team for the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California.
