Hania Thomas-Adams works full time in the UCSF surgery department and is a member of the palliative care committee. Hania also works for By the Bay Kids as a palliative care Child Life Specialist providing home-based care for children and their families. She is also a certified responder for Children’s Disaster Services, a national organization providing therapeutic play and trauma-informed care for children following both natural and man-made disasters. Hania received her bachelor’s degree in Child Psychology from Smith College in Northampton Massachusetts, where she graduated phi beta kappa, and her Master’s Degree in Early Education and Child Life from Mills College in Oakland California. Her Master’s thesis focused on childhood grief and how children make meaning out of loss, as well as how facilitated bibliotherapy can help scaffold this process. Hania lives in the Bay Area with her partner and her partner’s 5-year-old son, and in her spare time is an avid reader, occasional poet, and competitive distance runner.
