Dr. Kinderman is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Director of the Supportive & Palliative Care Service at San Francisco General Hospital.
After training in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she returned to San Francisco General in 2009 to help develop the Supportive & Palliative Care Consult Service as its founding Director. Dr. Kinderman’s work also has included developing a curriculum in “palliative care interpreting” for professional medical interpreters, promoting high-quality care for vulnerable patients with serious illness, and expanding palliative care services in safety net health systems.
In 2014, Dr. Kinderman and collaborators performed an end-of-life care utilization analysis for cancer patients at San Francisco General Hospital. This utilization study not only helped build the business case for developing community-based palliative care services at San Francisco General, it has also been used as a model for other safety-net health systems across the country which aim to expand community-based palliative care services in resource-limited settings.
